Title: | Production Assistant (US, Remote or Hybrid) |
Description: | Princeton University Press (PUP) seeks a skilled multi-tasker who is process and detailed-oriented, and has an interest in books, academia and publishing for a Production Assistant to join the Production Editorial team. Reporting to the Assistant Manager Editor, the role of Production Assistant is responsible for assisting Production Editors and providing general support for the overall management of the department. The ability to learn on the job and to collaborate with others toward creative solutions is essential to success in this position.
This is a full-time position with comprehensive and industry-leading benefits that include a focus on wellness. The selected candidate will be able to choose either 100% remote (within the US), hybrid, or full-time in our Princeton, NJ office. Primary Responsibilities: • Reviews revised page proofs against previous pass to ensure that all changes have been made accurately for Production Editors as needed. • Copyedits index manuscripts for Production Editors as needed. • Proofreads cover proofs for accuracy against previous pass as needed. • Prepares and submits applications for PCNs to the Library of Congress as needed. • Prepares art logs and checks permissions logs for Production Editors as needed. • Assists Paperbacks Manager in preparing delayed paperbacks and reissues for updates, including sourcing files, checking files against metadata for accuracy, marking up copyright pages, checking page proofs and revised page proofs. • Proofreads rip & rebind covers and printer proofs. • Implements reprint corrections as directed. • Reviews and updates copyright pages and covers/jackets for regional and print-on-demand editions as needed. • Attends Handover and Pub Date Tracking meetings, takes notes on pub date changes, and ensures that related reports are updated as needed and the distribution lists are kept updated. • Provides coverage for Production Editor and Paperbacks Manager absences. Base Salary: $45,000/year plus extensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience. |
Requirements: | Position Requirements:
• Experience: A minimum of 6 months of publishing experience or equivalent experience through an internship or work-study experience required. A Production Editorial or Editorial focus is preferred. • Degree from a 4-year college or university preferred but not required. • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, an ability to organize workflow, and ability to seek direction when questions or problems emerge. • Aptitude for learning rules of copyediting and style. • Ability to work independently and manage a multitude of tasks and ever-changing priorities within strict deadlines. • Ability to adapt to frequently changing technologies and procedures. • Ability to establish, develop, and maintain high-functioning working relationships with in-house staff and freelancers. • Ability to maintain, and operate from, a perspective that encompasses the entire mission of the Press. • Basic computer skills such as Acrobat, Word, Excel are desirable. • Demonstrated accuracy, organizational skills, and attention to detail. • Ability to work well both independently and with others and to synthesize feedback. • Proficiency across various modes of communication. • Capability to interact appropriately and respectfully with others. • Ability to adapt to changes in workload and to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. • Capacity to work independently for long periods of time. • Actively support an inclusive environment to foster a sense of belonging for colleagues. • Enthusiasm for collaboration, and commitment to PUP’s professional code of conduct, located at https://press.princeton.edu/about/mission-values. • This requisition is for a position in the U.S. Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the U.S. PUP will not attempt to obtain employment sponsorship for any applicants.
